How to Make a Baby Quilt Pattern?- Explained with Easy Steps
A baby quilt pattern can vary based on its making procedure and sewing technique. However, if you are a beginner or have a tight schedule and still want to make a lovely cute little baby quilt, then follow the below procedure. I have explained it in small steps to make it easier to understand. So, what is the wait?
Step 1: Buy A Charming Looking Fabric
Kids represent liveliness and cuteness. So, you should buy a lively-looking cotton or suitable fabric.
You can find these types of fabric in any fabric store or craft store. Also, make sure to buy at least 1-yard length of cloth each for the front and minky. Also, buy extra fabric for the batting and binding.
Step 2: Hand Wash, Dry And Iron The Fabric
After buying the preferred fabrics, you need to hand wash them with mild detergent and air dry them.
After completely drying, iron the fabrics so that they have no ceases. It will help you to cut the fabric in proper measure and sew it perfectly.
Step 3: Cut The Fabric
Lay both of the fabrics (minky and the front part’s wrong side) down on the floor or a wide and plain surface.
Now, put the right sides of the fabrics together. Cut the fabrics to smooth out the edges. Also, if the minky fabric is not the same size as the front one, place the font fabric on top of it and cut the minky to match the size of the front fabric.
Step 4: Pin And Sew The Fabrics
After cutting them, do not move them and just use some pre-prepared pins to keep them in place together. Make sure to pin the fabrics all the way around as the minky can stretch or move.
Now mark the edges of the fabrics with a marker before starting to sew. Using a sewing machine, sew the clothes together by following the marking. I will recommend you to use a 5/8 seam allowance.
Make sure the Minky is on the bottom side as if it is on the top, it can get stretched while sewing the pieces together and you might lose the marking line. Also, while reaching the edges and sewing them, slow down a bit to make things smooth.
Remember to take out the pins as you approach them.
Step 5: Cut The Corners And Wrap Up
While you are near the end, leave about 6 inches of fabric unstitched. Now, backstitch a few inches and take the blanket off the sewing machine.
Then cut the four corners of the baby quilt and cut some of the extra fabrics at the edge. After that, stick your hand inside the unstitched opening and pull the blanket right-side out.
Now, with the help of your hand, pop all the corners out properly and make sure the sharp edges are fine.
Then, line the opening and pin it down. Now, with the sewing machine, close the opening. Make sure to sew through all the sides in a straight line. After reaching the end, smoothly backstitch and finish the sewing. Your baby quilt is ready!

What Are The Best Frabics For Making A Baby Quilt Pattern?
Our infants are very vulnerable and need meticulous care. So, as a parent or a well-wisher, you need to carefully choose the materials. And, among all of the materials, fabric is the most important for a baby quilt pattern. Because the fabric comes in direct touch with the baby’s skin.
Also, as the weather and temperature vary from season to season, so, you must consider the material for making the baby quilt pattern based on the time of the year. Here, I will give you an overview of the suitable fabrics to make a baby quilt pattern for each season. So, let’s take a look.
The Fabric For A Spring Baby Quilt Pattern
The spring weather is not stuffy nor too cold. So, choosing a breathable yet somewhat warm fabric is best for a spring baby quilt pattern.
You should use lightweight cotton or muslin fabric to make such a breathable baby quilt pattern. Also, if you want to use batting, then use cotton or bamboo batting as it will not overheat and cause discomfort.
Best Fabric For A Summer Baby Quilt Pattern
Are you worrying about the scorching summer heat? Surely, the heat brings a toll on the baby. So, you should be more cautious about the clothing of babies at this time.
The best fabric for a summer baby quilt pattern is cotton or organic cotton. Do not ever use warm fabrics like flannel for the summer quilt. Also, it is best to make the quilt without any batting as the no-batting baby quilt is more breathable and promotes better airflow.
Material For A Fall-Friendly Baby Quilt Pattern
Fall is a beautiful season but the temperature will fluctuate and can become cold for the baby. So, choose a more heavy weighted cotton or flannel to make the quilt.
You should also insert batting while making the baby quilt pattern. Choose the material for batting to the warmer side like medium weighted cotton or wool.
Preferred Fabric For A Winter Baby Quilt Pattern
With the snowfall and cold, the winter can be a real challenge to the health of the babies. To make sure your baby stays warm, you should use wool or minky fabrics to make the baby quilt pattern to fight the cold.
Also, heavy-weight batting is heavily recommended as it will keep the baby warm and cozy. Use polyester or wool to make the batting.
